About the charity
Breastfeeding Together are a charity based in Wigan, their aim is to promote breastfeeding and help to support new mothers in and around Wigan
One of the ways that they provide this support is by running in person sessions for expectant mothers and healthcare professionals. Soon after they started offering sessions their phone was ringing off the hook, the training was so popular that they had to devote one member of staff just to answering the phones to answer queries and book people into their sessions.
DBD were contacted to look into the possibility of creating a bespoke portal to allow people view information about the courses on offer to book themselves onto the sessions. Because of some data sharing requirements and the unique way that BFT wanted to allow people to pay there was not an off the shelf product within the charities price range that was easy to use.
We created a simple web portal which allows the families to quickly see which courses are available in their area, book onto a date that is convenient for them and set their own price, the charity receives notification of the booking via email and can export a report showing the expected attendees for each event.
When the pandemic struck and the training was moved online we adapted the system to allow users to book onto virtual courses and link to them directly from the web site.
This system has been in use since 2016 and has saved the charity approximately £40,000 in additional staffing costs during that time.
We continue to work closely with the charity hosting their multiple web sites, e-commerce solution and emails as well as providing technical support as and when needed.
